Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, located in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, showed a significant increase in volcanic activity again on Tuesday (7/7/2026). A total of three consecutive eruptions occurred throughout the day, accompanied by rumbling sounds heard as far as residential areas around the slopes of the mountain.
According to data from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation, the peak eruption occurred at 11:37 AM WITA. The volcanic ash column soared up to 1,400 meters above the peak, equivalent to 2,984 meters above sea level. The thick gray ash material was reportedly blown by the wind toward the west and northwest, causing ashfall in the affected areas.
Seismograph monitoring systems recorded that the eruption activity had a maximum amplitude of 47.3 millimeters with an eruption duration of approximately 1 minute and 27 seconds. Given the high activity level, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki's status remains set at Level III (Alert).
Relevant authorities have emphasized a prohibition on residents and tourists from conducting any activities within a five-kilometer radius of the eruption center to avoid life-threatening risks. Local residents are advised to remain calm, continuously follow official directives from the local government, and not be influenced by unverified information.
