Volcanic activity of Mount Semeru in East Java has reportedly increased again entering early July 2026. Based on monitoring by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), the highest volcano on Java Island was recorded to have erupted four times in a single day on Wednesday (1/7/2026).
In this series of eruptions, the ash column was observed rising to a height of one kilometer above the crater peak. This phenomenon indicates that the activity status of the volcano still requires high vigilance from the local community and hikers.
Until now, authorities continue to conduct intensive monitoring of magma movement inside the crater. The public is urged to comply with the hazard zone recommendations set by the relevant authorities to avoid the impact of ejected volcanic materials and hot clouds.
The local government along with disaster management agencies remain on alert and continue to update information for residents around the mountain slopes. The discipline of residents in complying with the safe radius is highly emphasized to ensure safety during this period of increased volcanic activity.
