Mount Semeru, located on the border of Malang and Lumajang Regencies, East Java, has once again shown intense volcanic activity on Friday (3/7/2026). Based on monitoring data, the tallest volcano on Java Island was recorded to have erupted seven times within a span of just four hours.
The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) recorded a volcanic ash column spewing up to 1,300 meters above the crater peak. These eruptions were observed occurring in succession from early morning until just before midday.
To date, authorities continue to closely monitor the mountain's seismic activity. The public and tourists are urged to remain calm but vigilant, and must comply with the established danger zone recommendations to ensure safety from potential hot cloud avalanches and volcanic material ejecta.
