The misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the research world has now become a serious concern for scientists. A recent report from the International Symposium on Pneumococci and Pneumococcal Diseases (ISPPD) in Denmark revealed a worrying trend regarding the use of AI triggering data manipulation and plagiarism. This phenomenon is not new, referring to Brian Buntz's notes on biomedical data integrity scandals showing a sharp surge in fake papers over the last decade.
A fake paper detector developed by neuropsychologist Bernhard Sabel revealed that the percentage of data manipulation in neuroscience and medical journals has increased significantly. The reliance on AI for its speed in data processing has backfired when the system is "forced" to produce findings without going through a valid methodology. This poses a fatal risk to the medical world, where data integrity is the primary foundation of patient safety.
Furthermore, the ideology of speed brought by modern technology is now extending to education and food production. In agriculture, the concept of 'cellular agriculture' has emerged, relying on biotechnology to produce synthetic meat in laboratories. While this approach offers land and time efficiency, on the other hand, it reduces the natural biological processes that have been part of ecosystem sustainability.
In the social sphere, technology has changed the way humans interact through what is called 'real virtuality'. The presence of AI systems reinforces an instant culture that demands quick results, so that the narrative of patience—whether in seeking knowledge, investing, or building human relationships—is now increasingly eroded. The logic of the short term or *short-termism* triggered by this technology-based capitalism creates a society that is increasingly intolerant of time-consuming processes.
This condition places society in a paradox: the more advanced the technology used, the shallower the human connection. Public spaces, including social media, are now more often used as a stage for personal existence rather than a forum for collaborative interaction. The loss of appreciation for patience serves as an alarm for modern civilization that fundamental human values are threatened with extinction amidst uncontrolled technological acceleration.
