The mineral downstreaming program promoted by the government has now become a main pillar in strengthening the national industrial structure. CEO of the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Managing Agency (BPI Danantara), Rosan Roeslani, emphasized that this policy is not merely a short-term economic agenda, but a vital foundation to ensure that the added value of natural resource wealth continues to benefit the domestic economy.

Within this ecosystem, PT Aneka Tambang (Persero) Tbk, or Antam, plays a strategic role. As a state-owned enterprise, Antam is now focusing its portfolio on nickel downstreaming, which is crucial for the energy transition, particularly as a provider of key raw materials for future electric vehicle (EV) batteries.

President Director of Antam, Untung Budiharto, stated that the company is fully committed to carrying out the government's assignment through the development of integrated projects. One tangible achievement is the collaboration with PT Industri Baterai Indonesia and a global consortium that includes Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt and EVE Energy. Currently, the construction of the production facility in Karawang, West Java, has reached 90 percent progress and is scheduled to operate commercially by the end of July 2026.

This ambitious project, with a total investment reaching US$ 5.9 billion or approximately IDR 96.04 trillion, is projected to have a production capacity of up to 15 GWh. This production volume is prepared to supply the energy needs of around 250,000 electric vehicles, while simultaneously strengthening Indonesia's position in the global energy supply chain.

Financially, this strategic step is reflected in the company's performance, which recorded a significant surge. Throughout the 2025 fiscal year, Antam successfully pocketed a net profit of IDR 7.92 trillion, a sharp increase of 106 percent compared to the previous year. The revenue growth of 22 percent to IDR 84.64 trillion provides a strong signal that the integration of the gold and nickel businesses is key to the company's future profitability sustainability.
