The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta is increasingly expanding the coverage of piped water services through PAM Jaya. This strategic step aims to minimize residents' reliance on groundwater, which risks worsening the land subsidence phenomenon in the capital.
Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, emphasized that access to clean water is a basic right that must be fulfilled equitably for all citizens. Speaking at the Jakarta Water Hero 2026 event, he stressed the importance of professionalism in PAM Jaya's governance so that this public service maintains its quality and remains free from external interference.
To date, PAM Jaya's service coverage has reached 82 percent of Jakarta's population. The government aims for all areas of Jakarta to be served by the piped water network by 2029. To achieve this target, PAM Jaya plans to add over 2,000 kilometers of new pipeline network, supported by the construction of water treatment plants and the strengthening of strategic partnership schemes.
In addition to infrastructure expansion, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to easing the economic burden on residents through subsidy programs, such as the Healthy Water Card (Kartu Air Sehat) for low-income communities. This program allows simple household customers to enjoy highly affordable rates of IDR 1,000 per cubic meter for the 2A1 category, as well as compensation and priority service in the event of distribution disruptions.
The positive impacts of this program are starting to be felt directly by residents, such as those in the Condet area of East Jakarta. The transition from using inadequate well water to piped water not only provides clearer and healthier water quality but also proves to significantly reduce monthly household expenses.
