The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) of the Geological Agency confirmed that a magnitude 2.7 tectonic earthquake that struck the West Bandung Regency area on Thursday, July 9, 2026, had no impact on the stability of Mount Tangkuban Parahu's activity. Up to now, the condition of the volcano located on the border of West Bandung Regency and Subang Regency remains at Level I or Normal.
Based on data from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake's epicenter was recorded at coordinates 6.83 degrees South Latitude and 107.65 degrees East Longitude. Intensive field monitoring shows no significant changes in mountain deformation measured by tiltmeter or Electronic Distance Measurement (EDM) equipment.
Acting Head of the Geological Agency, Lana Saria, explained that seismic activity recorded during the period of July 1 to 9, 2026, remains within normal limits. Although two tectonic tremors were felt around the mountain area, other supporting data do not indicate any increase in volcanic activity that would require further caution.
Nevertheless, authorities continue to urge the public and tourists to remain vigilant. Visitors are strictly prohibited from descending to the bottom of Ratu Crater and Upas Crater to avoid the risk of exposure to hazardous volcanic gases, especially during cloudy or rainy weather conditions. Given that phreatic eruptions at Mount Tangkuban Parahu often occur suddenly, the public is urged to remain calm and rely only on official information from relevant agencies.
