The situation around Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait was observed to be relatively calm on Sunday (12/7/2026) morning. Based on visual observations from the monitoring post in Hargo Pancuran Village, South Lampung, only plumes of white to gray smoke with heights ranging from 20 to 100 meters were seen rising from the main crater.
Although no eruptions were recorded during the observation period from 00:00 to 06:00 WIB, the Geological Agency's instruments still recorded dynamic activity inside the volcano. There were six gust earthquakes, one low-frequency earthquake, one hybrid earthquake, and continuous tremor with a dominant amplitude of two millimeters, indicating that active volcanic processes are still ongoing.
Head of the Mount Anak Krakatau Monitoring Post, Andi Suwardi, emphasized that visual calmness cannot be interpreted as the cessation of volcanic activity. The evaluation of the volcano's status is conducted comprehensively, taking into account all seismic and visual observation data monitored 24 hours a day.
To date, the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) maintains Mount Anak Krakatau's status at Level III or Alert. The public, fishermen, and tourists are urged to comply with the recommendation of a no-activity zone within a three-kilometer radius of the active crater to ensure public safety.
