Volcanic activity at Mount Semeru again showed a significant increase on Tuesday (14/7/2026). According to an official report from the Mount Semeru Observation Post, the highest volcano on the island of Java recorded four eruptions within a short period, specifically between 05:30 WIB and 08:00 WIB.
Observation Post Officer Liswanto confirmed that the volcanic ash column was observed soaring up to 1,300 meters above the peak, equivalent to 4,976 meters above sea level. This activity was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 19 millimeters and a duration of 87 seconds.
In response to this situation, relevant authorities issued a strict warning urging the public not to conduct any activities within a 13-kilometer radius of the eruption center. Furthermore, residents living around the slopes have been advised to increase their vigilance regarding potential hazards such as pyroclastic flows, lava avalanches, and cold lava flows that could travel down rivers originating from the summit.
