Mediation efforts between the Branch Executive Council of Nahdlatul Ulama (PCNU) of Tegal City and the Tegal City Government regarding plans to build a nightlife venue in Sumurpanggang Village, Margadana District, have yet to yield a mutually agreed outcome. The meeting, which took place at the Pringgitan of the Mayor's Official Residence on Monday, June 29, 2026, was marked by sharp principle differences between both parties.
The meeting came as a response to objections raised by the Nahdliyin community, who expressed concern over potential social impacts and moral degradation resulting from the establishment of the entertainment venue. The PCNU delegation, led by Rais Syuriyah KH Misbachul Mustofa and PCNU Chairman Dr. Muslih Dahlan, met directly with Tegal Mayor Dedy Yon Supriyono and related officials to discuss the polemic.
Secretary of PCNU Tegal City, Budi Fitriyanto, revealed that there was a disparity of perspectives during the dialogue. The city government tends to view the investment from the angle of formal legality and contribution to Local Revenue (PAD). Conversely, PCNU emphasized that business licensing should not merely focus on administrative aspects, but must also consider local wisdom and the long-term impact on the younger generation.
Although an agreement has not yet been reached, PCNU remains committed to pursuing constructive dialogue and rejecting confrontational measures such as lawsuits. PCNU firmly demanded a comprehensive evaluation of all nightlife operations in Tegal City to ensure they align better with religious and socio-community values.
Responding to these aspirations, Mayor of Tegal Dedy Yon Supriyono assured that the government will not ignore the concerns of its citizens. The Tegal City Government is committed to conducting a comprehensive study covering juridical, sociological, and philosophical dimensions, involving relevant technical agencies to find the best solution for all parties.
