The Social Services Department of Maluku Province has taken a proactive step by partnering with the Class I Health Quarantine Office (BKK) of Ambon to provide intensive assistance for seven former individuals with mental disorders (ODGJ) who have completed their treatment at the Maluku Province Regional Special Hospital (RSKD). This step was taken to ensure that the physical and mental health conditions of the beneficiaries have stabilized before they are returned to their respective families.
The Head of the Maluku Province Social Services Department, Affandy Hassannusi, emphasized that this assistance is a reflection of the local government's commitment to providing humane and comprehensive services. The repatriation process involves seven patients, consisting of six individuals from Tual City and one individual from Southeast Maluku Regency, aiming to ensure they are ready to reintegrate into society.
A thorough health examination was conducted by the medical team of BKK Class I Ambon as a crucial procedural step. In addition to conducting medical visitations, the local government has also coordinated with the local district and city governments to ensure the continuity of the rehabilitation process and psychosocial support when the patients arrive in their home environments.
Meanwhile, dr. John S. Hetharie from BKK Class I Ambon revealed quite encouraging observation results. All patients showed positive health progress, with conditions much calmer and more stable compared to the beginning of their treatment. His team is optimistic that the patients have met the requirements to return to social life.
The success of this social reintegration depends heavily on the support of their families and continuous supervision from the local government. With continuous therapy, it is hoped that these former psychiatric patients can live more independent lives, improve their quality of life, and be able to perform their social functions again in the community.
