BOGOR — To strengthen national food security and promote Sharia-based economic independence, Bank Indonesia (BI) in synergy with IPB University organized the "Capacity Building Tani Berkah" program. The intensive training, targeting pesantren (Islamic boarding school) administrators from Batches 1, 2, and 3 across Indonesia, took place in Bogor on July 20–24, 2026.
This collaboration is specifically designed to improve the competence of pesantren administrators in adopting modern agricultural systems. The utilization of greenhouse technology is considered an effective solution to create a horticultural cultivation system that is more productive, efficient, and adaptive to the challenges of global climate change.
Head of the Leadership and Executive Education Institute (LKPE) of IPB University, Naufal Mahfudz, emphasized the importance of technology adoption in the agricultural sector. According to him, digital technology developments open up great opportunities that must be utilized by pesantrens to enable the downstreaming of agricultural products, rather than just understanding theory on paper.
Director of the Department of Sharia Economics and Finance of Bank Indonesia, Suryono, explained that BI currently has around 1,000 assisted pesantrens and their business units across Indonesia. The presence of this program is expected to foster new entrepreneurs within pesantrens who can bring a real economic impact to the surrounding community.
Over four days, the participants were equipped with comprehensive material combining theory and field practice. They had the opportunity to visit modern facilities at the Agribusiness and Technology Park of IPB University as well as the Darul Fallah Agricultural Pesantren in Bogor to study irrigation management, automated fertilization, microclimate control for plants, and modern agricultural management business strategies.
This program is expected not to stop at training alone. The participants hope for continuous mentoring as well as greenhouse infrastructure support from BI to accelerate the implementation of smart farming technology in their respective regions, in order to realize highly competitive pesantrens.
