The Borobudur Temple area in Magelang Regency witnessed the enthusiasm of thousands of runners in the annual Rupiah Borobudur Playon 2026 event on Sunday (5/7/2026). Around 4,000 participants took part in two running categories, 5K and 10K, initiated by the Bank Indonesia (BI) Central Java Representative Office in collaboration with the Central Java Provincial Government.
Governor of Central Java, Ahmad Luthfi, who personally participated in the 5K route, expressed high appreciation for the organization of this event. According to him, this activity serves as an ideal platform to promote the values of loving and understanding the Rupiah to the broader public, while encouraging a healthy lifestyle.
More than just a sporting event, Luthfi emphasized that this event acts as a driving force for sport tourism in Central Java. He encouraged all regional leaders in his province to be creative in identifying sports-based tourism potential in their respective regions to stimulate the local economy, including empowering the local MSME sector and creative communities.
Echoing this sentiment, Head of BI Central Java Representative Office, M. Noor Nugroho, revealed that the event involved 53 MSME booths offering superior products, ranging from culinary treats to traditional textiles (wastra). Furthermore, the event carried a social mission titled 'Run to Share', where all registration fees amounting to IDR 600 million were donated to 10 villages around the Borobudur area.
Participants' enthusiasm was remarkably high, as evidenced by various unique costumes and accessories worn by runners to convey environmental and welfare messages. The success of this event is expected to continue strengthening public financial literacy while positioning Central Java as a premier national sport tourism destination.
