Mount Ile Lewotolok, located in Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, has once again shown increased volcanic activity. On Tuesday (7/7/2026) night at precisely 21:52 WITA, the volcano reportedly erupted, accompanied by a fairly loud booming sound.
An officer at the Ile Lewotolok Volcano Observatory (PGA), Jefri Pugel, stated that the eruption was recorded on seismograms with a maximum amplitude of 40 mm. The duration of the eruption was recorded at 1 minute and 19 seconds. Although the volcanic ash column was not visually observable due to nighttime conditions, the impact of the tremors from the eruption was directly felt by residents around the slopes of the mountain.
Panic briefly swept through the residents of Jontona Village when a louder rumble than usual was heard. Maksimus, a local resident, stated that the tremors caused by the boom made his house vibrate, forcing him to immediately step outside to ensure safety.
As of now, the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) maintains Mount Ile Lewotolok's status at Level II (Alert/Waspada). Local residents and tourists are asked to remain vigilant and observe the activity ban within a 2-kilometer radius of the eruption center to anticipate potential follow-up hazards.
