A land fire triggered by the eruptive activity of Mount Karangetang on Siau Island, Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi, has now been reported as successfully extinguished. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) confirmed this conducive situation after incandescent lava previously burned areas around the active volcano's slopes.
The incident began when Mount Karangetang ejected incandescent lava flows from its summit crater toward the slopes. The slide of hot material subsequently sparked fires in the surrounding vegetation and land. The Sitaro Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) continues to conduct intensive monitoring to anticipate any potential new hotspots.
Although the land fire has been handled, the public is urged to remain vigilant and comply with recommendations from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG). Residents are prohibited from conducting activities within the hazard radius to avoid direct threats from Mount Karangetang's volcanic activity.
