The Regional Government of Anambas Islands Regency officially commenced the 1st Fighting Kite Festival on Saturday (1/8/2026). Held at the courtyard of the Great Mosque's Astaka in Siantan District, the event was opened directly by the Deputy Regent of Anambas Islands, Raja Bayu Febri Gunadian, S.E., as a concrete step to preserve local traditions.
The collaboration between the Indonesian Community Sports Committee (KORMI) of Anambas Islands Regency and the Pelangi community serves as the driving force behind this festival. The event is designed not merely for competition, but also as a platform to revive recreational sports that are deeply rooted in the culture of the island communities.
In his speech, Deputy Regent Raja Bayu expressed his deep appreciation to all committee members and communities who initiated the event. He emphasized the importance of preserving ancestral heritage so that it remains known by the younger generation amidst the dominance of modern technology. According to him, the values of togetherness and sportsmanship inherent in kite playing must continue to be nurtured.
The Anambas Regency Government hopes that KORMI will remain consistent in organizing various other traditional game festivals, such as spinning tops (gasing) and regional folk sports. This effort is believed to not only strengthen local cultural identity but also has the potential to become a new magnet for the tourism sector in the Anambas Islands.
