The Mayor of Singkawang, Tjhai Chui Mie, stressed that hosting the 2nd West Kalimantan Provincial Community Sports Festival (Forprov II) carries a mission greater than mere competition. The event is seen as a crucial medium for fostering a renewed spirit of togetherness and inclusivity across generations within the community.
According to Tjhai Chui Mie, community sports possess unique characteristics that set them apart from competitive sports. The main focus is not on winning medals, but on active participation, joy, and the preservation of traditional games that can transcend ethnic, religious, and cultural boundaries.
Taking place from July 5–12, 2026, the event is attended by 3,098 participants and officials from 12 regencies/cities across West Kalimantan. Competing in 22 Sports Parent Organizations (Inorga) across eight different venues, Forprov is expected to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood among residents in the province.
In addition to strengthening social bonds, Singkawang's appointment as the host city is also leveraged to promote regional potential. The presence of thousands of out-of-town participants is expected to significantly boost tourism and local economic growth throughout the event.
Tjhai Chui Mie concluded by expressing the openness of the Singkawang community in welcoming all contingents. She hopes that local hospitality and memorable experiences during the festival will inspire guests to visit Singkawang City again in the future.
