Volcanic activity at Mount Semeru showed a significant increase again on Wednesday (10/06/2026). Throughout this morning, specifically from 05:30 WIB to 08:00 WIB, the highest mountain on Java Island was recorded erupting four times.
According to an official report from the Mount Semeru Observation Post, the volcanic ash column rose up to 1,000 meters above the peak, reaching 4,676 meters above sea level. The thick white-to-gray ash material was observed moving toward the north and northwest.
Seismograph recordings indicated that the eruption had a maximum amplitude of 22 millimeters with a duration of 113 seconds. Despite the increased intensity of volcanic activity, authorities confirmed that Mount Semeru's status remains at Level III (Alert).
Mount Semeru Observation Post officer, Sigit Rian Alfian, emphasized the importance of residents complying with the restricted activity zone. The public is strictly prohibited from conducting activities within a 13-kilometer radius from the eruption center to anticipate the threats of pyroclastic flows, lava streams, and rain-triggered lahar hazards that could occur at any time.
