Efforts to control forest and land fires (karhutla) in the Biru Hills area, which is part of the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of the Raden Soerjo Grand Forest Park (Tahura) in Mojokerto Regency, are facing severe obstacles. The extreme geographical terrain is the main factor preventing the joint team from reaching the active fire spots.
The Chief Executive of the Mojokerto Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Rinaldi Rizal Sabirin, explained that based on current monitoring, there are at least four fire spots spread across the Regional Conservation Resort (RKW) 06 of Tahura Raden Soerjo. Administratively, the burned area lies within the villages of Gumeng and Begaganlimo, Gondang District.
According to Rinaldi, the biggest obstacle for personnel on the ground is the presence of steep ravines separating the hills from one another. This topographic condition severely threatens the safety of officers, forcing them to find safe alternative routes to carry out manual firefighting.
To anticipate the increasingly dynamic situation, officers continue to carry out intensive surveillance. Monitoring relies not only on conventional ground patrols but also utilizes special forest fire monitoring application technology and tracks the direction of the wind, which is currently reported to be moving towards the Batu area.
In this emergency operation, cross-sector synergy continues to be strengthened. Various entities, such as the East Java BPBD, Mojokerto Police, Pacet Police, Tahura officers, college students, and the Fire Care Community (MPA) group, are working shoulder-to-shoulder on the ground to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading.
