The Provincial Sports Week General Assembly (Musorprov) of the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) South Kalimantan, held in Banjarmasin on Saturday (4/7/2026), appointed the Vice Governor of South Kalimantan, Hasnuryadi Sulaiman, as General Chairman of KONI South Kalimantan for the 2026–2030 term. Hasnuryadi was elected by acclamation after receiving unanimous support from all regency and city KONI administrators across the region.
In his speech, Hasnuryadi committed to carrying forward the leadership baton of his predecessor with a strong spirit of collaboration. He emphasized that synergy between the regional government and sports branch administrators is key to achieving their ambitious target of breaking into the national top 10 at the upcoming National Sports Week (PON).
According to Hasnuryadi, this achievement-strengthening strategy must also be accompanied by the development of international-standard sports infrastructure planned by the South Kalimantan Provincial Government. He stressed that modern facilities would mean little without concrete support for training and welfare guarantees for Banua athletes.
Furthermore, Hasnuryadi highlighted the importance of paying attention to athletes' futures and education as a preventive measure to keep local talent from moving to other provinces. He is determined to create a sports ecosystem capable of motivating athletes to continue striving to bring honor to South Kalimantan on the national stage.
Responding to this leadership transition, former Chairman of South Kalimantan KONI, Bambang Heri Purnomo, expressed high optimism. He voiced full support for the new administration to continue innovating, including readiness to adopt strategic policies such as the establishment of a Sports Intelligence Division instructed by the central KONI to map out opponents' strengths and optimize future medal tallies.
