Hasnuryadi Sulaiman was officially elected by acclamation as the General Chairman of the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) for South Kalimantan during the Provincial Sports Conference (Musorprov) held in Banjarmasin on Saturday (04/07/26). Under his leadership, he emphasized the urgency of synchronizing sports infrastructure development with the quality of athlete coaching.
Hasnur, as he is affectionately called, highlighted the crucial challenge of high-achieving athletes migrating to other regions. According to him, providing adequate welfare is the main instrument to ensure athletes feel valued and maintain strong loyalty to represent South Kalimantan on the national stage.
Strategic steps are immediately being prepared to maintain South Kalimantan's position, which rose significantly to 15th nationally in the previous National Sports Week (PON). KONI South Kalimantan plans to conduct intensive mapping of potential sports branches while establishing a strategic collaboration with BINDA to monitor the development of new local talents.
Former KONI South Kalimantan Chairman, Bambang Heri Purnama, added that the threat of medal-winning athletes from the Aceh-Sumut PON being poached by other regions is a serious concern. Therefore, the new management is expected to pay special attention through a more comprehensive coaching program, aiming to convert silver medals into gold in the future.
With this new leadership, KONI South Kalimantan is optimistic about strengthening the local sports ecosystem. The primary focus is not merely on the quantity of medals, but also on the sustainable welfare of athletes who are valuable assets for the future advancement of Banua's sporting achievements.
