The 2026 Provincial Sports Conference (Musorprov) of the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) of South Kalimantan, held at the Aria Barito Hotel on Saturday (4/7/2026), resulted in a crucial decision for the future of sports in Banua. Deputy Governor of South Kalimantan, H. Hasnuryadi Sulaiman, was officially appointed as the General Chairperson of KONI South Kalimantan for the 2026–2030 period through an acclamation mechanism.
Hasnuryadi's election comes with strong reasons. As the sole candidate who passed administrative verification, he secured majority support from 13 Regency/City KONIs and 51 voting sports branches. This leadership transition was symbolically marked by a relay of office from the previous period's chairperson, H. Bambang Heri Purnama, who had led the organization since 2015.
In his maiden speech following the appointment, Hasnuryadi emphasized the importance of maintaining the solidarity built so far. He stressed that the established organizational foundation must not be wasted, but rather developed further for effective athlete development. According to him, program continuity is the key to ensuring South Kalimantan's sports achievements continue to rise, both nationally and internationally.
Hasnuryadi also put forward strategic ideas involving cross-sector synergy, including a plan for every regional head in South Kalimantan to commit to fostering at least one sports branch. The target is clear: each sports branch is expected to contribute at least one gold medal in upcoming competitions. This step is seen as a realistic effort to trigger an acceleration of achievement through more measurable fostering.
Closing the series of events, Hasnuryadi reiterated the importance of sportsmanship values above all else. He called on all KONI elements to use sports as a unifying tool for the nation and promised to continue collaborating with local government in providing adequate facilities for athletes. With this new captain, high hopes are set for South Kalimantan's sports world to achieve even greater accomplishments in the future.
