The search operation for two teenagers from Krinjing Village, Watumalang District, Wonosobo Regency, has ended in tragedy. Alifin Nur Rohmat (18) and Yufaidin (15), who were reported missing for over ten days while on Mount Bismo, were found lifeless in a steep ravine.
The unfortunate incident began when the two went up the mountain area on Tuesday (30/6) afternoon. According to witness statements, the victims did not go on a formal climb, but only brought limited supplies in the form of snacks. Lack of preparation and extreme terrain are suspected to be the main factors in this incident.
The joint SAR team, assisted by volunteers and a team from Wanadri, encountered extraordinary difficulties due to the geographical conditions of the southern slopes of Mount Bismo, which are covered by dense tropical forest vegetation. Minimal sunlight and terrain filled with steep ravines made the victims' tracks difficult to detect, even forcing the search operation to be temporarily halted on Saturday (11/7) due to time constraints and the team's safety standard operating procedures.
A breakthrough came when the Wanadri team successfully searched the valley area around Curug Tiga on Sunday (12/7). The two bodies were finally found at the bottom of a ravine with a depth of about 200 meters. The dense and steep forest conditions required the evacuation team to work extra hard using ropes over 200 meters long to reach the recovery site.
Head of BPBD Wonosobo, Sumekto Hendro, stated that the evacuation process took quite a long time until Sunday night given the difficult terrain. After being successfully retrieved, the bodies of the two victims were immediately rushed to the hospital for further handling before being handed over to the family at the funeral home for burial.
