Hiking activities at Bukit Cendono, located in the Raden Soerjo Grand Forest Park (Tahura) area, Kemiri Village, Pacet District, Mojokerto Regency, have been temporarily closed. This policy was implemented following a forest and land fire (karhutla) on the slopes of the Mount Biru Complex, which is adjacent to the trail.
This official closure came into effect on Wednesday (15/7/2026). In addition to ensuring the safety of tourists and hikers, the Bukit Cendono trail is now being focused on as the main access route for evacuation and firefighting efforts by joint personnel on the ground.
The Head of the Protection and Community Empowerment Section of the UPT Tahura Raden Soerjo, Ajat Sudrajat, explained that direct socialization had been carried out for hikers who had already arrived since Tuesday night. According to him, this hill, with an elevation of 1,131 meters above sea level (masl), is one of the favorite destinations that is usually packed with visitors on weekends due to the attraction of its natural scenery and clear river streams.
Echoing this, the Chief Executive of the Mojokerto Regency BPBD, Rinaldi Rizal Sabirin, emphasized that the decision to close was made based on mutual agreement for public safety. Rinaldi added that this incident is the first forest and land fire in the Mojokerto region in 2026. Although Bukit Cendono is closed until conditions become conducive again, tourists can still access 11 alternative peak destinations in the area.
The hotspot itself was first detected in the Regional Conservation Resort (RKW) 06 area, which falls within the administrative boundaries of Gumeng Village and Begaganlimo Village, Gondang District. Extinguishing and containment efforts are still being intensified by a joint team to prevent the fire from spreading.
