The Indonesian American Games (IAG) 2026 was officially held at the Wintrust Sports Complex in Chicago from June 19 to 21, 2026. This large-scale event served not only as a sports competition, but also as a strategic momentum to strengthen ties among the Indonesian community scattered across various states in the United States.
The opening ceremony took place solemnly with the presence of several key figures, including the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the United States, Indroyono Soesilo, President of NOC Indonesia, Raja Sapta Oktohari, and the Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Chicago, Trisari Dyah Paramita. A contingent parade and the sounding of the national anthem Indonesia Raya initiated a series of competitions in more than eight sports branches, ranging from basketball and volleyball to emerging popular sports such as pickleball and chess.
Behind the fierce competition in the arena, IAG 2026 also became a showcase for the rich arts and culture of the Archipelago. Various performances, from traditional dances to pencak silat demonstrations, were presented to reinforce national identity. The initiator of the event, Davon Arjunaidi, emphasized that this event aims to create an inclusive space for diaspora members from diverse backgrounds to connect with one another and build national pride.
President of NOC Indonesia, Raja Sapta Oktohari, expressed high appreciation for the organization of this event. According to him, the IAG is a tangible implementation of Olympic values that uphold respect and friendship. He noted that this initiative is crucial for strengthening Indonesia's sports ecosystem on the global stage while shaping the character of young Indonesians abroad.
Indonesian Ambassador to the US, Indroyono Soesilo, emphasized that sports and culture are highly effective instruments of diplomacy. Through this event, Indonesia not only demonstrates solid community solidarity, but also projects the image of a peaceful, inclusive, and high-achieving nation in the eyes of the international community. With the participation of hundreds of diaspora members from across the US, IAG 2026 successfully served as a bridge of friendship across nations.
