Indonesia's data center sector is currently recording a significant growth trend, even outpacing the global average performance of 20% to 25% annually. This phenomenon is driven by the accelerated adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which demands more advanced and massive computing infrastructure.
Erick Hadi, representative of the Indonesian Data Center Provider Association (IDPRO), revealed that the surge in AI demand is not only accelerating the physical construction process, but also driving the transformation of data center infrastructure standards in the country to meet modern computing needs.
In addition to domestic factors, Indonesia also benefits from shifts in the regional investment landscape. Singapore's policy restricting new data center developments since 2019 has redirected investor interest to Indonesia. This move has acted as a magnet for global cloud service providers and hyperscalers targeting the Southeast Asian market.
The need to serve millions of digital users in the region is the primary reason why Indonesia is now becoming a strategic hub for the data center ecosystem. With demand continuing to rise, Indonesia is projected to maintain a central role in digital infrastructure in the future.
