Modern livestock farming models are beginning to develop in the Quang Ninh region, pioneered in part by Dong Quang Cuong in Phong Coc Ward. With an investment of 5 billion VND, he transformed conventional duck farming into a closed-house system based on cooling technology that operates 24 hours a day.
This system is designed to keep indoor temperatures stable within the range of 26-28 degrees Celsius, even during extremely hot weather outside. The infrastructure, which includes a steel roof, protective tarpaulins, and a concrete floor with stainless steel, allows farmers to raise up to 13,000 ducks per batch with better-maintained health thanks to optimal air circulation.
Efficiency is the primary advantage of this model. While traditional farms require 7 to 9 workers for 10,000 ducks, this automated system requires only one worker. Furthermore, the integration of microbial technology in processing manure into earthworm compost not only maintains cleanliness around the barn environment but also provides additional income for the farmer.
In terms of productivity, this model can achieve 7 to 8 production cycles per year with a total population reaching 208,000 ducks, generating an annual income of around 3 billion VND. Compared to open systems that require up to 6 hectares of land, this cold-house model is far more space-efficient, requiring only 2,000 square meters of land.
Although it requires substantial initial capital, the application of this technology is seen as the future of sustainable livestock farming. Besides minimizing the risk of losses due to extreme weather, the system also ensures food safety through stricter environmental controls, making it a new standard for farmers in the region.
