Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) officially opened the ITB Museum, located in the Sasana Budaya Ganesha (Sabuga) complex, Bandung. The inauguration, held on Friday (3/7/2026), marks an important milestone in celebrating 106 years of higher engineering education in Indonesia, while also marking the presence of a new literacy space dedicated to preserving the track record of science, technology, arts, and humanities.
Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, who attended the inauguration ceremony, expressed high appreciation for the museum's concept. According to him, the ITB Museum successfully marries historical narrative with cutting-edge digital technology. Fadli believes this approach is highly relevant to the government's vision of advancing the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields and hopes it will serve as a model for other university museums across the nation.
Rector of ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, M.T., explained that the museum is not merely a storage site for static artifacts. It is designed as a historical laboratory and an intergenerational collaboration space connecting Indonesia's past, present, and future vision. The idea to build the museum has been in development since 2018, starting from an archive digitization initiative until finally materializing into a comprehensive physical exhibition space.
The museum is divided into four main exhibition zones: ITB's historical roots zone, research and education zone, campus life zone, and future inspiration zone. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a unique experience in the 360° Theater Dome, which presents historical narratives and innovative achievements through immersive audio-visual technology.
This project is the result of collective hard work by an initiating committee involving interdisciplinary fields, alumni, and various strategic partners. Located on the 4th floor of the Sabuga building, the museum is now open to students, researchers, and the general public looking to explore the nation's intellectual history and gain inspiration for future innovations.
