Duta Wacana Christian University (UKDW) Yogyakarta officially launched its new Food Technology Study Program under the Faculty of Biotechnology on Wednesday (22/7/2026). This academic step was taken to cultivate excellent human resources capable of producing science-based food innovations to support national food security.

The launch of the new study program took place at the UKDW Koinonia Auditorium and was attended directly by the Rector of UKDW Wiyatiningsih and the Head of LLDikti Region V, Prof. Setyabudi Indartono. The establishment of this study program is projected to be a response to food security challenges and an effort to optimize the utilization of Indonesia's rich tropical biological resources.

The Head of the UKDW Food Technology Study Program, Catarina Aprilia Ariestanti, explained that this program is specifically designed to combine modern food technology with biotechnology. Students will study the processing techniques of animal, plant, and microbial food through a comprehensive scientific approach.

One of the key focuses of this new program is the development of indigenous nutraceutical or health products based on local natural ingredients, as well as functional foods. This innovation combines local wisdom with modern science to produce food products that are not only highly nutritious but also offer health and economic value.

The curriculum is also designed to adapt to global industry dynamics, covering courses from food chemistry and microbiology to food engineering. Through this applied science training, graduates are expected to be ready to become innovative and ethical food professionals with an entrepreneurial spirit on the international stage.
