The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Bangkok continues to monitor the situation following a massive fire that hit a nightlife venue in the Lat Phrao area, Bangkok, Thailand. According to the latest reports from local authorities, the disaster has claimed dozens of lives and left many injured.
Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heni Hamidah, stated that so far there are no reports of any Indonesian citizens being victims in the incident. The Indonesian Embassy has been coordinating intensively with local police and hospitals to verify the situation on the ground.
A massive fire swept through Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao, a nightclub on the outskirts of the Thai capital. Eyewitnesses reported extreme panic as patrons tried to escape the flames, which spread rapidly and filled the venue with thick smoke.
The Governor of Bangkok, Chadchart Sittipunt, explained that the rapid spread of the fire to the building's ceiling was the main cause of the fatality of this incident. Most of the victims are believed to have died from inhaling toxic smoke inside the building.
To date, 27 people have been reported dead, while 63 others were injured, with 22 of them in critical condition. The Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok reiterated its commitment to remain on alert and coordinate with Thai authorities to provide legal or humanitarian assistance should any affected Indonesian citizens be found.
