After spending years pursuing a career in Singapore's high-tech sector, Huynh Minh Thuan decided to return to his birthplace in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam, carrying a new vision. The calling to contribute to the local economy led him to an innovative idea: cultivating the Red Barhee date palm variety, a high-value crop still rare in the region.
The project, initiated three years ago in Hau My Commune, Dong Thap Province, is now bearing fruit. Thuan imported premium seedlings originating from the United Arab Emirates via Thailand. Thanks to meticulous care, the farm has now turned into a local phenomenon, attracting the attention of residents and tourists curious about the sight of date palms bearing heavy fruit amidst tropical countryside.
The presence of this farm offers a new experience for locals who were previously only accustomed to consuming imported dried dates. Visitors can not only taste fresh dates directly from the trees but also enjoy a refreshing agritourism atmosphere. Seeing its immense potential, Thuan is now planning to further expand the farm area.
