The National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) Central officially launched a book titled 'Sports Intelligence' at the State University of Surabaya (UNESA) on Tuesday (7/7/2026). This book is a manifestation of a long-term project pioneered since 2019, with the main objective of integrating the role of media as an important pillar in the national sports development ecosystem.
General Chairperson of Central KONI, Retired Lieutenant General Marciano Norman, emphasized that in the modern era, achieving sports performance is no longer just about relying on physical ability alone, but must be based on data processing and precise strategies. According to him, this book serves as a bridge connecting traditional sport science methods with cutting-edge digital innovations, including artificial intelligence (AI) and big data processing.
Meanwhile, the lead author of the book and Head of the Sports Intelligence Department, Eman Sungkowo, explained that the concept of sports intelligence presented in this work aims to provide a competitive advantage for athletes and coaches. By utilizing accurate strategic information, sports stakeholders are expected to be able to map out opponents' strengths and weaknesses more comprehensively.
Academics welcomed Central KONI's initiative. Vice Rector IV of UNESA, Prof. Dr. Dwi Cahyo Kartiko, stated that the launch of this book is an important momentum for the country's sports world. He hopes this literature can become a credible reference for academics, policymakers, and all stakeholders in advancing the Indonesian sports industry through a more scientific and measurable approach.
