The National Sports Committee of Indonesia (Central KONI) has officially initiated preventive measures to eradicate sexual harassment and bullying practices within the national sports ecosystem. Through a strategic discussion with various sports federation bodies held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, KONI committed to ensuring that the performance sports environment remains a safe space for all athletes.
Vice General Chairman VI of Central KONI, Josef Adrianus Nae Soi, emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach in handling this sensitive issue. According to him, prevention must start from the grassroots level through family education to the enforcement of strict rules in training centers. Josef introduced a framework encompassing planning, implementation, supervision, and sanction evaluation to ensure a deterrent effect for perpetrators.
Furthermore, Central KONI is currently finalizing the drafting of standard protection or *safeguarding* guidelines, which will serve as a reference for all sports branches in Indonesia. These regulations are expected to serve as a strong legal umbrella to anticipate unwanted incidents in the future, as well as to improve the standardization of professional conduct on the field.
During the forum, representatives of sports federations also provided crucial inputs regarding the challenges of early-age athlete development. The discussion highlighted the urgency of continuous education for athletes and specialized training for coaches on *safeguarding* issues. This step is expected to create a sports culture that upholds sportsmanship values and respects human rights.
