Japan's industrial sector is predicted to record impressive financial achievements in the 2026 fiscal year. Based on analysis from several major securities firms, market optimism is growing as massive global demand for artificial intelligence (AI) technology has managed to cushion the impact of rising operational costs due to geopolitical uncertainties in the Middle East.
SMBC Nikko Securities estimates that the total net profit of 250 major companies on the Tokyo Stock Exchange has the potential to surge by up to 19.3%. This momentum is primarily driven by the semiconductor industry, where massive requirements for AI-powered data centers continue to spur orders for memory chips, precision electronic components, and chip manufacturing equipment. Companies like Kioxia Holdings, Advantest, and Tokyo Electron are projected to be the main engines of this growth.
On the other hand, concerns over surging energy prices previously triggered by conflicts in the Middle East have now begun to subside. Stabilizing crude oil prices provide a sigh of relief for Japan's manufacturing sector, which is highly dependent on imported energy supplies. This factor, combined with operational cost adjustments, makes corporate profit outlooks appear brighter than the conservative estimates from the beginning of the year.
The automotive sector, which was shaken by US import tariff policies last year, is also showing signs of significant recovery. With net profit growth estimated to reach 36.5%, the sector is being helped by the launch of various new vehicle models as well as yen exchange rate fluctuations that favor overseas earnings. Analysts believe that if oil price stability persists, many companies will soon revise their profit targets upward in the coming months.
