The Civil Engineering Study Program at Universitas Bojonegoro (Unigoro) hosted a practitioner lecture focusing on the dynamics of the business world in the construction sector on Thursday (2/7/2026). The event, held at the Faculty of Science and Engineering, featured the First Vice Chairman of the Institution of Engineers Indonesia (PII) Bojonegoro, Ir. Alfan Affandi, as the main speaker to analyze career and business potential for future engineers.

In his presentation, Alfan emphasized that today's construction ecosystem demands a strong integration between technical expertise and managerial skills. A business player in this field is expected not only to be proficient in structural design, but also capable of formulating sound business strategies so that construction projects run efficiently and profitably. Opportunities in this sector are considered to hold great potential, covering residential property, public infrastructure, and the growing demand for building renovations.

Despite offering promising prospects, Alfan acknowledged the existence of fairly complex hurdles. Factors such as fierce market competition, significant capital requirements, and fluctuations in building material prices are realities that young entrepreneurs must manage wisely. To overcome these challenges, he encouraged students to start adopting modern technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) and environmentally friendly prefabrication methods to boost operational efficiency.

In addition to technical and financial aspects, the speaker highlighted the importance of professional integrity, ranging from regulatory compliance and implementation of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) standards to environmentally conscious business ethics. These points are considered crucial to ensuring project sustainability and minimizing social risks in the community.

The session, moderated by Ir. Moh. Sholahudin, was met with great enthusiasm from the students. The interactive discussion served as a forum for participants to delve deeper into the transition from the academic world to the realities of a construction industry filled with innovation and global challenges.
