The 50th North Sumatra Fair (PRSU) was officially opened on Jalan Gatot Subroto, Medan, on Friday (03/07/2026). The annual event, which is the largest business promotion showcase in the province, was opened directly by the Vice Governor of North Sumatra, Surya, replacing Governor Bobby Nasution, who was absent from the opening agenda.
In his speech, Surya emphasized that this year's PRSU is not merely an entertainment celebration for the public. He highlighted the event's strategic role as a showcase for development and a crucial platform for local governments and business actors to feature key potential, attract investors, and drive North Sumatra's economic growth.
"The 50th PRSU is a meeting space for investment, innovation, and human resource development. Through collaboration among regency/city governments, we want to demonstrate to the public that North Sumatra possesses strong competitiveness to continue growing," Surya stated on the main stage.
President Director of PT Pembangunan Prasarana Sumatera Utara (PPSU), Ferry Indra, added that this golden anniversary edition will run for 31 days, specifically until August 2, 2026. Targetting 300,000 visitors, the committee has prepared various segments, ranging from cultural stages and landmark interaction areas to a main stage for art performances and competitions.
This year, promoting North Sumatra's premium coffee commodity is one of the priority agendas. This step was taken to strengthen the image of local coffee in both national and global markets while boosting regional export volumes. In addition, the event features participation from 33 regencies and cities displaying MSME products and the creative economy potential of each region.
The opening of the 50th PRSU was attended by a number of key figures, including Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Ade Jona Prasetyo, representatives from the Ministry of Creative Economy, and regional leaders from across North Sumatra. The presence of these stakeholders is expected to strengthen synergy in future infrastructure development and regional economic systems.
