Personnel from the Gunung Malela Police Station, Simalungun Police Department, have apprehended a 22-year-old man identified as BS alias RM for his alleged involvement in an embezzlement crime. The suspect was detained in the Rangkasbitung area, Lebak Regency, Banten Province, after fleeing following the incident in Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra.

Head of Public Relations for the Simalungun Police, Police Assistant Commissioner (AKP) Verry Purba, explained that the case unfolded following a report from the victim, Narsumiati Sitohang, regarding the disappearance of her Honda Vario motorcycle and two smartphones. The incident took place on June 4, 2026, near the Batu VI Community Health Center (Puskesmas), when the suspect—who had been asked to drive her for medical care—instead fled with her valuable belongings.

The suspect's modus operandi was quite cunning. While at the health center, he pretended to buy medicine at a pharmacy, taking the motorcycle and two phones belonging to the witness, but never returned. As a result of the incident, the victim suffered estimated material losses of IDR 27.3 million.

The suspect's arrest was the result of solid cross-jurisdictional coordination between the Gunung Malela Police and the Rangkasbitung Police. Armed with intelligence information, an operational team led by the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Gunung Malela Police, First Police Inspector (IPDA) B. Situngkir, successfully tracked down the suspect on Jalan Ir. Juanda, Rangkasbitung, at the end of June 2026.

The suspect has now been brought to the Gunung Malela Police Station to be held accountable for his actions. Police have secured evidence in the form of vehicle documents and are currently conducting further investigations for legal proceedings in accordance with Article 486 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHPidana).
