Environment Minister (LH), Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat, along with representatives from PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI), held a mangrove planting event in the Labuhan Alas area, Alas District, Sumbawa Besar, on Tuesday (07/07/2026). This activity serves as a symbol of the government's seriousness in rehabilitating increasingly threatened coastal ecosystems.
In his statement, Jumhur Hidayat highlighted the urgency of restoring mangrove forests, which has now become a national priority agenda. Data from the Ministry of Environment shows that Indonesia possesses 3.4 million hectares of rich mangrove ecosystems, but unfortunately, around 700,000 hectares, or 30 percent, are in critical condition and damaged.
Synergy between the government and the private sector, such as PTFI, is expected to accelerate the restoration process of these coastal areas. This effort is deemed crucial not only for environmental conservation but also as a step toward natural disaster mitigation and coastline protection across Indonesia.
