The Asmat Regency Government, through the Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora), officially opened the inter-student volleyball and futsal tournament for junior high (SMP) and senior high/vocational school (SMA/SMK) levels or equivalent throughout Asmat Regency in 2026. The opening ceremony of the competition was led directly by the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Asmat Regency, Absalom Amiyaram, representing the Regent of Asmat, Thomas Eppe Safanpo, at the Pelabuhan Baru Field, Agats District, on Friday (24/7/2026).
This annual event was attended by hundreds of students from various regions, including representatives from Akat, Atsj, Fayit, Joerat, and Sawa Erma districts, as well as the host, Agats District. Through the Regent's written remarks read by Sekda Absalom, the local government expressed its appreciation for the active participation of schools and students in enlivening this competition.
In his speech, Sekda Absalom emphasized the importance of upholding sportsmanship throughout the tournament. According to him, winning and losing are normal in a competition, but the values of discipline, teamwork, and fighting spirit formed through sports are far more valuable for the character development of the students.
The Asmat Regency Government also gave high appreciation to Dispora as the organizer, and appreciated the support from teachers, coaches, parents, and the entire committee. The synergy of various parties is considered to be the main key to the successful implementation of the tournament.
Closing his remarks, Absalom advised the referees and judges to lead each match fairly and professionally to maintain the integrity of the competition. He hopes that through this sporting event, a healthy, resilient, high-achieving young generation of Asmat with a winning mentality can be born.
