The Banda Aceh City Government, through the Transportation Department, has begun redeveloping the former Keudah Terminal area to repurpose it into a productive zone. The land is now projected to become a mixed-use development combining open public space with an integrated business center.
The Head of the Banda Aceh City Transportation Department, Syaifuddin Ambia, revealed that the development plan for this area had actually been designed since 2015. The initial design of the area featured a seven-story building, including two basement levels for the terminal, commercial areas, a shopping center, and a hotel.
Not only as an economic hub, this area is also prepared to become an integrated transportation node. The former Keudah Terminal will eventually function as a main transit point for public transport as well as feeder services connecting various regions in Banda Aceh City.
Although the grand plan was temporarily delayed due to difficulties in finding suitable investors, the city government took tactical steps by first clearing and tidying up the area. This clearing and temporary fencing initiative is expected to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the area to potential investors.
The 11,717-square-meter area is considered to have very high investment potential. In addition to being in the heart of the city, its location is highly strategic as it is close to the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque, directly faces the Krueng Aceh River, and is near the Peunayong commercial center.
During the redevelopment process, this land will function as a public open space for various creative activities and local economic events. The optimization of this regional asset is expected not only to beautify the city layout but also to provide a direct economic impact on the surrounding community.
