The Pekanbaru City Government (Pemko) has officially launched the Free Health Check (CKG) program within higher education institutions, with Hangtuah University serving as the inaugural location for the event on Thursday (9/7/2026). Hundreds of students and campus staff enthusiastically participated in the series of medical checkups provided by the city government.
The Deputy Mayor of Pekanbaru, Markarius Anwar, who attended in person to open the event, stated that this collaboration is a strategic step in bringing healthcare access closer to the academic community. He emphasized the need for sustainable synergy between the government and higher education institutions across the city.
"This is our first collaboration with a higher education institution, and I hope this initiative can be passed on to other campuses in Pekanbaru. This service targets students and staff so they can monitor their health conditions regularly," Markarius said on the sidelines of the event.
Furthermore, Markarius emphasized that early detection through CKG is crucial for preventing complications of serious illnesses in the future. By knowing their physical conditions early, participants are expected to take appropriate preventive measures, thereby significantly improving the overall health quality of the city's population.
The Pekanbaru City Government aims to expand the scope of this program to ensure public health targets are achieved to the maximum. Through a campus-based approach, the city government is optimistic that it can reach the productive age group more effectively and target-oriented.
