The Kendari City Government has demonstrated a serious commitment to maintaining regional food stability by organizing the 2026 Thematic Climate Field School (SLI). This step was taken as a strategic response to increasingly unpredictable weather challenges, which directly threaten the productivity of the local agricultural sector.
During the event held in Kendari on Saturday (4/7/2026), farmers were equipped with technical skills to read climate data and utilize modern agricultural technology. This knowledge is crucial for farmers to determine the right planting times and select crop varieties suitable for weather conditions, aiming to minimize the risk of crop failures that have historically triggered price fluctuations in basic commodities.
Head of the Prevention and Preparedness Division at the Kendari City BPBD, Rahmat Yunus, who read the remarks of Mayor Siska Karina Imran, emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration. He stressed that scientific data provided by the BMKG must be translated into practical, easy-to-understand guidelines for communities at the grassroots level, especially to support urban farming development.
The City Government hopes that the training participants can become agents of change who disseminate climate adaptation methods to other farmer groups. The synergy between technological utilization, efficient land management, and an understanding of weather patterns is believed to build a solid foundation for food self-sufficiency in Kendari City amid ongoing dynamic natural changes.
