The Indonesian Shipbuilding and Offshore Industry Association (Iperindo) has taken a strategic step to strengthen the position of the nation's maritime industry on the global stage. This step was realized through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Russian shipbuilding giant, Ak Bars.
The agreement took place on the sidelines of the INNOPROM 2026 industrial exhibition held in Yekaterinburg, Russia. The moment was witnessed directly by the Indonesian Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, along with representatives from relevant Russian ministries, marking the close diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.
General Chairperson of DPP Iperindo, Anita Puji Utami, explained that this collaboration does not merely focus on trade activities. The main focus of the cooperation includes technology transfer, human resource capacity development, and strengthening a more competitive supply chain for the shipbuilding industry for Iperindo members.
"We are committed to expanding international market access and adopting technological advancements possessed by our strategic partners. This is a concrete step so that the domestic shipbuilding industry can compete globally," Anita said in an official statement.
During the event series, PT PCM Kabel Indonesia, one of the entities under the auspices of Iperindo, also signed a cooperation agreement with Ak Bars. This partnership is a follow-up to a preliminary meeting held by the Russian delegation during their visit to Indonesia in April 2026, aimed at exploring business opportunities in the maritime sector.
Through this synergy, Iperindo is optimistic that the national shipbuilding industry will gain new momentum to improve production quality and strengthen its position as a key player in the shipbuilding industry ecosystem at both regional and international levels.
