Persebaya Surabaya officially began their first training session in preparation for the pre-season tournament and the 2026/2027 Super League season. The training session held at the ABC Field in the Gelora Bung Tomo (GBT) Stadium complex, Surabaya, on Saturday (11/7/2026), served as a momentum for the coaching staff to assess the squad's physical readiness.
During the training session, several newly signed faces were seen joining the team. Among them were Brazilian midfielder Gledson Paixao, who was recently introduced to the public, as well as two other foreign players: Diogo Ramalho from Portugal and Brazilian defender Walber Mota.
Persebaya coach Bernardo Tavares praised the enthusiasm shown by the players. Nevertheless, he acknowledged physical constraints experienced by some players, especially those who recently arrived from abroad. Jet lag after long-distance travel resulted in suboptimal rest patterns for the players.
"We cannot force the players to give a 100 percent performance right now. A lack of quality rest significantly increases the risk of injury if forced to undergo high-intensity training," Tavares said after the training session.
Addressing this issue, the coaching staff opted to be pragmatic. They decided to adjust the training load so that the players could gradually adapt to ideal physical conditions before facing more challenging competitions ahead.
