President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that the direction of Indonesia's foreign policy remains grounded in the independent and active principle, with a primary focus on building harmonious relations with all countries in the world. In Prabowo's view, the philosophy of "a thousand friends are too few, one enemy is too many" serves as the main foundation for Indonesia in interacting on the international stage.
The statement was delivered by the President while inaugurating the Ibu Marsinah Museum and Halfway House in Nganjuk Regency, East Java, on Saturday (5/16/2026). According to Prabowo, the culture of respecting guests and other nations is a manifestation of the noble values passed down by the nation's founding fathers and religious figures, in which Indonesia views every country as having an equal standing regardless of the size of its territory.
Prabowo revealed that the current government is actively strengthening bilateral relations with various neighboring countries such as Singapore, Vietnam, China, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Australia, and Thailand. Through intensive diplomatic channels, a number of bilateral issues that have persisted for years are now beginning to see a breakthrough and concrete resolution.
Responding to the global geopolitical situation full of uncertainty, the President assured that Indonesia remains in a safe condition, especially regarding food and energy availability. He stressed that domestic stability is a vital asset in carrying out a broader diplomatic role amidst world dynamics.
In addition to discussing foreign policy, Prabowo delivered a stern message to political elites and national leaders. He reminded them that commitment to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) must not be mere rhetoric, but must be realized through concrete policies that prioritize the people's interests and maintain national unity above all personal or group interests.
