Quick Response, Health Ministry Establishes Emergency Post for Residents Affected by Jatiwaringin Landfill Fire

The Ministry of Health has established an emergency medical post in Tanjakan Mekar Village to serve hundreds of residents affected by the Jatiwaringin landfill fire, which triggered a surge in acute respiratory infection (ARI) cases.

The Health Crisis Center of the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) moved quickly to respond to the impact of the fire at the Jatiwaringin Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Mauk District, Tangerang Regency. In collaboration with the Tangerang Regency Health Office and the Rajeg Community Health Center (Puskesmas), an official emergency health service tent was established in Tanjakan Mekar Village on Friday (3/7).

This post serves as the main referral center for local residents requiring immediate medical attention. Syamsul Ahmad, a representative of the Kemenkes Health Crisis Center, emphasized that the establishment of this facility aims to ensure residents' access to healthcare remains intact amidst the post-fire emergency situation. In addition to basic medical services, Kemenkes has also placed a fleet of ambulances on standby to evacuate patients to higher-level healthcare facilities if necessary.

To date, the fire incident that swept through 15 hectares of land at the Jatiwaringin landfill has triggered a significant health impact, particularly a surge in Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) cases. Government data shows at least 210 ARI cases have been recorded since the onset of the disaster on June 30. Furthermore, 232 people were forced to evacuate, including 50 residents who are staying in temporary shelters at the Tanjakan Mekar Village Office.

Regarding the situation on the ground, the Head of Waste and Hazardous Waste Management Division of the Tangerang Regency Environmental and Forestry Office (DLHK) extended an apology to the public for the incident. The office is committed to conducting a comprehensive evaluation of the waste management system in the future to prevent similar incidents from recurring.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Tangerang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Achmad Taufik, stated that the hotspots have now been brought under control. A total of 7 fire engines with 50 personnel were deployed to the location, supported by two *water bombing* helicopters to extinguish embers in areas difficult to reach by ground crews.
