The Rupiah Borobudur Playon 2026 running event has once again proven its significance, serving not only as a sporting platform for thousands of runners but also as a catalyst for social change. This year, all registration fees collected, totaling over Rp600 million, were fully donated to support waste management initiatives in ten buffer villages surrounding the Borobudur Temple area.
The Regional Secretary of Central Java Province, Sumarno, highly praised Bank Indonesia for its consistency in hosting this event. According to him, the synergy between sports activities, economic empowerment, and social action is a concrete step toward strengthening the sport tourism ecosystem in Central Java, aimed at boosting public consumption through tourist visits.
Head of the Bank Indonesia Representative Office for Central Java Province, M. Noor Nugroho, revealed that participant enthusiasm rose sharply this year, reaching 4,000 runners—a significant increase compared to the inaugural event in 2023, which saw around 2,000 participants. The presence of regional leaders, including Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi who ran in the 5K category, added to the excitement of the event.
In addition to offering a captivating running route, Rupiah Borobudur Playon 2026 served as a platform for dozens of fostered MSMEs, as well as an educational medium for financial literacy, consumer protection, and food inflation control initiatives. The success of this event is inseparable from the charm of the Borobudur area, which participants described as highly comfortable and featuring a supportive atmosphere for family sporting events.
