Global stock markets recorded a welcome positive performance after the technology and semiconductor sectors experienced a significant rally. This condition was triggered by renewed optimism surrounding the artificial intelligence (AI) investment cycle, alongside support from falling global oil prices, providing positive sentiment for market participants.
Strategists from Deutsche Bank noted that the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index recorded its best daily performance in three weeks with a 3.06% gain. This surge was primarily driven by Micron's massive investment expansion, which raised its capital expenditure commitment for new factory facilities in the United States to $250 billion through 2035.
This optimistic sentiment also spread to the U.S. capital markets, where the S&P 500 index managed to rebound by 0.81%. A shift in investment patterns became evident as investors began departing defensive sectors and shifting their capital back into growth and cyclical stocks. Industry groups such as automotive, technology hardware, and banking led market gains, while the consumer staples sector lagged behind.
In the Asian region, a similar trend occurred, with major indices such as South Korea's KOSPI recording a sharp surge of 5.11% after briefly being in a bearish market phase. Gains also occurred on Hong Kong and Japanese exchanges, where the Hang Seng and Nikkei 225 recorded solid advances. Although regional markets demonstrated resilience, investors remain attentive to future movements, monitoring the stability of U.S. Treasury yields and global economic dynamics still shadowed by geopolitical uncertainties.
