Diponegoro University (UNDIP) is starting to take an active role in strengthening the national aerospace ecosystem. Through exploring collaboration with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and industry partners, the university is committed to promoting satellite technology research and preparing human resources (HR) ready to compete on the global stage.
UNDIP Rector, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, emphasized the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration to produce innovation with a real impact on society. According to him, the era of working in isolation is over, making synergy between institutions the key to optimizing each party's potential in space research.
This collaborative effort also received support from various parties, including the Education and Culture Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in New Delhi, Prof. Fuad, and the President Director of PT Len Industri (Persero), Prof. Joga Dharma Setiawan. This synergy is expected not to end with discussions, but to proceed to implementable projects that strengthen national technological independence.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Satellite Technology Research Center at BRIN, Prof. Wahyudi Hasbi, explained that satellite technology is a multidisciplinary field requiring expertise from various majors, ranging from electrical, mechanical, and software engineering to space law. To support this, BRIN is opening its doors to UNDIP academics to use state-owned space laboratory facilities for free to improve research efficiency.
This strategic cooperation is expected to accelerate the mastery of satellite technology in Indonesia. In addition to communication purposes, satellite utilization is now crucial for disaster mitigation, earth observation, and supporting the acceleration of national digital transformation.
