Two hikers from Karimun Regency, Riau Islands, M. Rizki and Dika, were successfully rescued after getting lost on the Mount Jantan hiking trail. This swift evacuation process was conducted by a joint SAR team following a report of lost contact on Thursday (9/7/2026) night.
Head of the Tanjungpinang Class A SAR Office, Fazzli, revealed that the two young men started their climb on Thursday afternoon. However, toward evening, they were unable to find the trail back and managed to inform their families of their situation before their mobile phone ran out of battery.
Responding to an emergency report received at 22:33 WIB, the Tanjung Balai Karimun SAR Post Rescue Team was immediately deployed to the site. During the search operation, the team utilized thermal drone technology capable of tracking body heat in the darkness of the Mount Jantan forest to map the victims' location.
Thanks to solid coordination among SAR personnel, Karimun Police, BPBD, and active participation from village officials and local community members, both hikers were found safe early Friday (10/7/2026) morning. The victims were found at a coordinate point approximately 50 meters from the first hiking post.
After being successfully evacuated, both were immediately taken to the SAR post for further medical checks before being handed over to their families. With the victims found, the search operation was officially closed at 01:10 WIB.
